Have you ever wondered what message you’re sending when you put on your glasses in the morning? Glasses don’t just alter your physical appearance—they give people hints about your personality as well. The color, material, and shape of your glasses tells everyone you meet just a little bit about you.

Color

Brightly colored glasses are a pretty bold statement. They suggest confidence as well as a willingness to have fun. Yellow glasses are fun and blue glasses are cool. Red glasses are a particularly daring statement because red is a power color. Black can also be a powerful color depending on the style of frame. Black frames can be subtle, but they can also be bold.

Most glasses frames are either plastic or metal. While the rules aren’t hard and fast, plastic frames suggest a fun loving, youthful attitude, while metal frames are seen as more professional and responsible.

Shape

When you choose a pair of glasses, you have a large number of shapes to choose from. Does the style of frames you chose match your personality?

Round Frames

People who wear round frames are often creative and gentle. They are calm under pressure and care about other people. Round frames suggest tranquility and an affinity for the romantic things in life.

Wayfarer Frames

Wayfarer frames have made a huge comeback in recent years.

They have lost their nerdy vibe of years past and become popular with people who are comfortable in their own skin and who don’t care much about what others think.

Big Bold Sunglasses

Big bold sunglasses are suited to big bold personalities. People who choose big bold sunglasses are fashion conscious and courageous. If you are very confident and love to have fun try on a pair of statement making sunglasses.

Rectangle Frames

Rectangle frames are often chosen by those who are quiet and intelligent. Rectangle frames are stylish, but don’t make a strong statement, which makes them perfect for those who aren’t looking to stand out in a crowd. People who wear rectangle frames are content and collected.

Cat-eye Frames

Cat-eye frames used to be associated mostly with cat ladies and shushing librarians, but in modern times they are a courageous and sophisticated statement. They are usually worn by women who know what they want in life and have a plan for getting it.

Rimless Frames
Rimless frames are very subtle, which means they are suited to those who are looking to blend in with those around them. They also suggest the person wearing them is happy with the way they look since they aren’t using their glasses to alter their appearance.  Those who choose rimless frames are often quiet and invested in learning new things.

Aviator Frames

Aviators are classics, and the people who wear them are classic as well. Aviators suit those who value simplicity. People who wear aviators are cool and relaxed but also love a good adventure.

Of course no one is has a personality as simple as a pair of glasses, but what you wear on your face all day every day does give others a glimpse into what you are like on the inside. Whether you are shopping online or at your eye clinic in Edmonton or Edinburgh, choose a pair of glasses that suits your personality.

  1. This is so interesting! I have a pair of Wayfarer frames (I never even knew they were called that) and a pair of Rectangle frames. It's so true! No lie, I wear the rectangular frames when I have a heavy day of meetings at the office so I can at least look like I know what I'm talking about. LOL! And I usually wear my Wayfarer frames when I go out because they're much more fun. This is such a great post!

  2. When I'm not wearing my contacts, I'm rocking my rectangle eyeglasses. And my go-to sunglasses are aviators. So, I guess that means I'm intelligent, but cool? I can live with that!

  3. Super interesting. I have older black wire framed glasses but mainly wear contacts. I think I need to rethink my options. Thanks for the info.

  4. It's come a long way from my terrible 80s/90s glasses!!! :D I stick with contacts though for the most part now.

  6. I loved this article. It was true to a tee. I have worn glasses since I was a little kid. I never thought about what my glasses say about me. But your description of subtle colors, wire rims and rectangular shapes are me through and through.

  7. In my younger days, it was definitely the wayfarer frames. I still love them, but they just don't work on the more rounded face I have developed. Now I go for more rectangular frames.
This was such an interesting article.

  8. Okay, what about those of us wearing reading glasses who buy the cheap ones at Walmart. Does it say I am cheap and don't really care about what I look like but do want to keep on reading?

  12. This is really funny. It's not something I have really thought about before. My mother has Wayfarer glasses, my sister wears round frames, and my husband wears slim rectangular frame glasses. I guess I have a lot of personality variety in my life ;)! I've known people who wear each style mentioned above throughout the years. Knowing the personality of all of the three individuals I mentioned above, I'd say the glasses do suit. Although my sister also belongs in the "intelligent but quiet" category. Then there's me... I put work into maintaining my 20/20 vision so I don't have to wear glasses at all!

I think my husband would like seeing what his glasses tell others about him. I'll be sure to share this when he gets home from work tonight. Thanks for sharing!

  16. I found this very interesting and enjoyable to read! I always think how we dress and what we wear, including glasses, says something about us. However, I had to laugh when I read about rectangle glasses- that's what I wear, but it's completely opposite from me! Lol. Either way, our choices do reflect who we are, whether consciously or not. I'll be checking back for more!

  18. By these standards I am professional, responsible, quiet (not), content (yes I am), and looking to blend in with the crowd. I like it, this was fun! My frames are still fairly new. I find that picking out new glasses is a challenge. I like the big bold frames but only just for fun, not for all the time.

  22. I chose contacts over 20 years ago because I didn't really like the styles at the time--however, my sunglasses have always been big and tortoise-shell.
So I really like how you covered all the styles I could possibly think about.

  23. I have had to wear glasses since I was eight years old and so this was a fun round-up of different eras in my life! Now I wear contacts because my script is so strong I lose all peripheral vision with glasses. Nice post!

  30. I am blessed {so far} with not needing glasses but when I go with my mom I am always so impressed by the selection. It is very rare you see someone with the same glasses as someone else which really makes them unique to the person and shows off personality. Love it!

  35. My favorite pair of glasses are the cat-eye glasses, but I can't wear them. Mine are a mixture of the cat-eye and square with a design. They are actually pretty fun and I get a lot of compliments on them! My oldest son picked them out.
